The Masquerade Studio was founded in 1998
by Finbarr Ryan, Ireland, and Petra Föhrenbach, Germany.
Both studied with Donato Sartori, the main Italian mask maker at the Centro
Maschere e Strutture gestuali in Padova, Italy.
The Masquerade Studio collaborates with physical actors and mask makers through
out Europe. The aim of the Studio is to research traditional mask culture
and its potential for modern day performance.
Petra Föhrenbach, make-up artist and mask maker. Leader
of the make-up departement of the Grips Theater Berlin. Since 2005 freelanced,
working in theatre, film and sociocultural projects in Germany, Italy and
Scandinavia. Main working areas: physical theatre and social change, social
history of the Commedia dell´Arte and masks as documents of the cultural
Finbarr Ryan, educated actor, comic and mask maker. He directs
and performs with theatre groups in Berlin , Denmark and Holland, works as
a clown in both circus and festivals. Teacher of physical acting, specialized
in mask performance and Commedia dell'arte.
