The workshop introduces participants to different types of masks and their specific communication structures. We start with Archaic masks working on basic human archetypes and social positions in a performing space, which enhances the performance and the believability of an actor.
As a next step we use Larval masks and combine them with the playfulness and spontaneity of a clown to work on the quality of the moment, its tragedy, comedy and poetry. Here we focus on awareness, simplicity, clarity and intuition. The aim is to reach a state of being that allows an actor to free himself on stage and to create these unique moments capturing the audience and ravish them into a poetic space.
We finish the workshop with the half masks of the Commedia dell´Arte, working with interaction, rhythm and tempo. In addition we will introduce the participants to the grotesque origins of the Commedia dell´Arte and its provoking and challenging function in the process of social inclusion and exclusion which will give this whole jouney into the world of masks a down to earth, full blast and gripping finale.
The workshop takes place at the DOF Theatre in Istanbul from the 13.7. to the 17.7.26.
